OK Yorkie Sad News

March 15th, 2010

On Saturday, March 13, OKYR picked up a sweet little girl from the OKC shelter.  She was nothing but skin and bones, one of the worst we have ever seen.  She was dropped off with one of our most experienced foster mom’s with the goal of feeding her and nursing her back to normal weight.  She was named Tilly.

Sweet Tilly ate well that night and bedded down in her comfy crate with lots of bedding to make it soft.  She woke foster mom the next morning with a rousing bark to let her know she had pottied in her crate and would really like a clean place to sleep.  Foster mom could tell she was not feeling well as the morning went on.  She tried several different at home remedies before making the decision that she needed vet care.

By the time she reached the vet, Tilly had crossed the to the Rainbow Bridge.  The vet looked her over and found that her liver had failed.  She did not stand a chance!

Her fur condition was very good.  She had not been on the streets for long before OKC Animal Control found her.  However, her emaciated state did not happen in that time.  She was not being feed for a significant amount of time.  Why would someone not feed an older gal (vet guessed her age to be around 12 years) and let her get out and wander the streets to die.

Her last night was spent well fed, comfortable, and well loved!  RIP Tilly, all the furbabies before you are waiting to greet you.  Run and play!

So sorry to hear this. I know Kathy showed her more love in her last couple of days than she probably had her whole life. Tilly went surrounded by love.

It makes me so physically sick to hear this. I wish I could find the person who left her in the streets and starve them until their organs fail and torture them along the way as well. Thank God her last night she was not alone or hungry.

RIP sweet girl. You all are amazing for helping older dogs as many rescues do not…
She looks much older than 12 but when animals are not taken care of they do look much older than their years.
Poor darling. My dog also got liver failure when she was about 12.
Sometimes it can make them unable to eat and my girl had an enlarged liver and a fluid filled tummy. She would try to eat one bite for me, but she was basically going to starve to death as she could not eat. I am not sure why.. I guess they do not feel well or something.
I am so happy she had a good night for once.. I wish she would have stayed longer. That must have been hard to lose her.
    People suck.
Thank goodness for your care of the elderly.
Elderly animals and people are so dispensable in our society.
Thnak goodness for rescues like you
